Cholwald Landfill, Switzerland

Discover how WALO tackled the challenge of adding a fourth landfill to an existing site, with a unique solution using 'Silfertiger' and multi-functional winching vehicles.

Case Study Description

As a landfill for reactors, the landfill in Cholwald is used for depositing sewage sludge ash, construction waste and contaminated soil. The objective of the project was to add a fourth landfill to the three existing cells at the site. The work was done in two different stages between 2012 and 2013. WALO’s task was to build a “channel” consisting of asphalt liner to ensure that the lines of the deep drainage system could be attached to a shaft building. This “channel” acts as a reinforcement for the overlying pipes for the event that leakages occur in the lines. It is concealed by the shaft building on the slope.

Special Features

One of the major challenges in this kind of project are the extreme geometric conditions in the area around a shaft building. Our solution: the entire installation was performed using “Silfertiger” and multi-functional winching vehicles.
