Bigge Dam, Germany

Case Study Description

The Bigge Dam in Attendorn (North Rhine-Westphalia) was built between 1957 and 1965. The purpose of the dam is to prevent flooding, to act as a reservoir for the water supply, to generate hydro-electric power and to serve as a tourist attraction.

During the course of the repair work, WALO renewed the outer asphalt seal of the main dam, which involved abrading and reinstalling the upper section. Because the water supply had to remain uninterrupted for the duration of the project, all of the work had to be done above the water.
